World Champ- 1960 & 62

This ship, which is known as the Grondal Nobler won the first two FIA F2B WC. !960 in Hungary and 1962 in Ucrania. Plans were later published by AMA, hence the name.

AMA SPECIAL NAME

Louis Grondal named the plane thus as in those days the first two rounds of the World Champs the competitors flew the FAI pattern without squares and hourglass. The third round qualifiers then flew a round to the AMA pattern with square figures and hourglass. Louis used this modified Nobler for the third round and called it "AMA Special".

For the two FAI patterns Louis flew a standard "Green Box" Nobler

It had nothing to do with the AMA publishing the plan. Hope that clears any other thoughts on how the model got it's name.
